Letter From the Director

Welcome to the websiteMarilu Goodyear of the new School of Public Affairs and Administration! As of July 1, 2011, our department has become a school to reflect the reality of our full-service research and teaching enterprise in public administration. We remain within KU's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, emphasizing the relationship between social science theory and practical application to public sector organizations in our academic programs and our research. To read more about this change click here.

We work to foster a vibrant learning community for public service education and research.  We prepare leaders, develop professionalism in the public workforce, and link KU resources to the challenges of public management and service.  Our dedicated faculty, innovative academic and professional development programs, and research activities enable our school to:

  • Educate for ethical leadership:  Our graduates apply their knowledge and skills to the critical challenges facing the all those involved in governance today.
  • Advance knowledge:  Production of new knowledge and its dissemination is central to the work of our school.  Across diverse areas of scholarship, our faculty, staff and students make important contributions to both theory and practice.  Our academic and professional development programs translate this cutting-edge research into knowledge that can be practically applied to improve the effectiveness of public servants  and public sector organizations.
  • Service the public:  We serve as a forum for public leaders, community members and scholars to debate and analyze today’s issues and problems. We strive to include all voices and perspectives.

The strengths of our faculty members and students include intellectual excellence, a diversity of methodological approaches and interests, and a passion for public service and social equity.  I invite you to learn more about us, our programs, and our services.

Sincerely,

Marilu Goodyear
Director, KU School of Public Affairs and Administration
