The master of public administration (MPA) is the professional degree for those who seek leadership positions in public service. These degree programs develop the skills and techniques to design and implement policies, projects, and programs to provide vital daily services and address important societal problems while attending to the day to day administrative issues in organizations. More about careers in public service…
KU’s Edwin O. Stene Master’s Program in Public Administration is one of the oldest and most respected programs in the United States. Our tradition of excellence in educating local government leaders stretches back to 1948. Our MPA is ranked #1 nationally among public affairs programs in city management and urban policy. The Program’s faculty are nationally recognized scholars and teachers, and our MPA alumni are committed to helping new graduates find their niche in public service.
In our MPA program, we endeavor to strengthen the provision of public services in society by preparing students for leadership and management positions in the public and non-profit sectors, especially at the state and local levels. Through our coursework, we emphasize the development of abilities important to the effective and ethical management of governmental and non-profit organizations.
We offer two tracks in our MPA program: the intern-option, a full-time track for students who are “pre-service” with little public administration experience, and the career-option, for those who are already working in the field of their choice who desire an MPA for career development and advancement.
